Hotel Tour: Carmelo's Four Seasons Resort, Uruguay

Hotel Tour Carmelos Four Seasons Resort, Uruguay

Though we've never been, every time we travel to Uruguay, and in particular the very picturesque town of Colonia, accessable by ferry from Buenos Aires, we think of this resort. "When you just want relaxation, that’s where the Four Seasons in Carmelo, Uruguay stands apart, designed for the post-Buenos Aires traveler in mind. Putting them into a numbed state of relaxation with Balian style including Asian-inflected design elements and imported woods." We hear it is spectacular! Here are some observations, drawn from reviews.

“A serene retreat along the shores of Uruguay's Rio de la Plata, our Resort in Carmelo is set amidst a gorgeous landscape of grassy plains, rolling vineyards, and stands of pine and eucalyptus.”

Featuring 44 guestrooms housed in 20 private bungalows constructed of Brazilian walnut, many of the duplexes offer views of the vast Rio de la Plata. Some residents claim they can see the distant glow of Buenos Aires, while others are tucked away in the eucalyptus forest. The hotel offers activities such as guided horseback riding, barbeques, ranch & organic farms, gatherings, and entertainment. You can always sprawl out under a palapa on the golden-sandy beaches and take dips in the river for a refreshing break. Tours are offered of quaint Colonia del Sacramento, a UNESCO-protected former Portuguese colony with cobbled streets and crafts shops housed in 16th-century buildings.

The resort is best-known for its Bali-inspired spa that has a wood-burning chimney, pool, dry sauna, and Asian treatments. If the spa isn't your thing, there's a magnificent “truest bend” golf course. The River-View Bungalows have hand-carved king beds, private terraces, and al fresco showers.

Maybe this year will be the year we actually give this amazing resort a try! Please let us know if you have any questions on your next trip to South America as we would love to help by organizing shopping and dining tours of Buenos Aires and Lima!
